Bay Networks and MIL 3 Sign Cooperative Marketing Agreement

Companies Provide Real-Time Network Simulation and
 Visualization for Multiservice Networks

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Bay Networks, Inc. Internet/Telecom Business Unit (NYSE: BAY) today announced a cooperative marketing agreement with MIL 3, Inc., Washington, D.C., a leading provider of network modeling and simulation products for communication networks and distributed systems. Bay Networks and MIL 3 have agreed to assist each other in providing Bay Networks' service provider customers with visualization and simulation capabilities required for planning and engineering complex multiservice networks.

The two companies will cooperatively market a complementary solution set that is currently available and based on MIL 3's OPNET Planner network modeling and simulation application and Bay Networks' Optivity Enterprise(TM) network management application for Bay Networks' BayStream(TM) family of products.

Bay Networks has teamed with MIL 3 and other best-of-breed companies to provide a complete suite of network management applications available through Bay Networks OptivityServices(TM), the company's open network management solution for service provider edge infrastructure and the delivery of service provider managed services within the customer premise. MIL 3's OPNET Planner supports the management of multiservice networks by providing a comprehensive simulation engine for network planning and visualization. Designed for integration with network management products, OPNET Planner gives network managers real-time simulation tools, including the accurate depiction of network components to Frame Relay networks and the Virtual Private Networks located within them.

"As today's multiservice environments continue to expand in size and complexity, service providers increasingly require logical and partitioned views of the network for network planning," said Dave Danielson, product line manager, network management, Internet/Telecom Business Unit, Bay Networks. "By teaming with MIL 3, Bay Networks strengthens its ability to provide service providers with flexible simulation and visualization capabilities that assist in network design and change validation, as well as capacity planning."

"Our relationship with Bay Networks combines its leading internetworking and management expertise with MIL 3's strong position in network simulation and planning," said Marc Cohen, director of marketing at MIL 3. "This represents a key step in bringing MIL 3's industry-leading network modeling and simulation tools to Bay Networks' service provider customers requiring customized decision-support capabilities for network management, planning and analysis."
