Bay Networks Teams with Syndesis Limited to Deliver Network Provisioning and Change Management for Large Multiservice Networks

Companies Offer Flexible, Cost-Effective Configuration and Change Control
 Automation Tools

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Bay Networks, Inc. Internet/Telecom Business Unit (NYSE: BAY) today announced a joint development and marketing agreement with Syndesis Limited -- a Toronto, Canada-based leader in specialized network management software and services -- to provide Bay Networks' service provider customers with advanced service provisioning and change management capabilities, which reduce the cost and complexity of managing today's expanding multiservice environments.

Syndesis Limited developed Service Provisioning System (SPS) for Bay Networks' Optivity Enterprise(TM) network management suite, with available support for Bay Networks' BayStream(TM) family of products. Under the terms of the agreement, Bay Networks will offer its service provider customers SPS, an integrated solution that automates and simplifies the deployment of network-wide service changes across a Bay Networks environment.

Based on Syndesis' software toolkit NetProvision(TM) Toolbench, SPS provides single-point provisioning and change management automation, including roll-back and auditing functions, for network-wide service elements such as Permanent Virtual Circuits and emerging BayStream services. SPS encompasses a central database, an intelligent configuration manager and distributed multi- user change control technology that gives network managers the ability to quickly and reliably configure, control and monitor new or existing networking equipment within a multiservice environment.

"Bay Networks is committed to delivering a full complement of flexible network management capabilities that meet the critical requirements of service providers operating and managing large-scale, multi-tiered networks," said Dave Danielson, product line manager, network management, Internet/Telecom Business Unit, Bay Networks. "Our cooperative effort with Syndesis contributes to this goal, giving service providers a competitive advantage to respond quickly to network change configuration and management for the delivery of multimedia services."

"As service provider networks continue to expand to accommodate new services, users and devices, it is imperative that network managers have the ability to define, approve and implement network-wide changes while maintaining current service levels," said Doug Chapman, vice president, product marketing at Syndesis. "This relationship combines the strengths of Syndesis' NetProvision(TM) Toolbench with Bay Networks' internetworking technology to deliver a flexible and cost-effective solution that addresses configuration and change control automation as well as the network interrelationships within a service provider environment."

Bay Networks has teamed with Syndesis and other best-of-breed companies to provide a complete suite of network management applications available through Bay Networks OptivityServices(TM) -- the company's open network management solution for service provider edge infrastructure and the delivery of service provider managed services within the customer premise.
