Battle of the shows; Our very own Awards judge Tony Stewart on a fantastic year.

THE BRITISH SOAP AWARDS 2012 Wed ITV1 8pm

They are the only soap to be nominated in every category, but that doesn't mean EastEnders will sweep the board at this year's Awards.

And, as always, Corrie, Doctors, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks will make it an entertaining fight.

But even as a judge on the BSA's panel who vote for nine of the 17 categories, I'd find it hard to call. With four nominations apiece, Enders' Jo Joyner (Tanya Branning) and Corrie's Alison King (Carla Connor) will make it a fascinating head-to-head in a glamorous ceremony that's as famous for its frocks as shocks.

Expect the unexpected and Doctors' Owen Brenman (Heston Carter) should do well in Best Dramatic Performance, Emmerdale might snatch Spectacular Scene for the Bartons' car crash, Lorna Fitzgerald (Enders' Abi Branning) would make an excellent Best Young Performance winner, while Ashley Taylor Dawson and Jessica Fox from Hollyoaks might celebrate being Best On-Screen Partnership.

And Best Soap? Corrie. They deserve it.
