Battaash looks the pick for Haydock.
THERE has been a disappointing turnout for the Group 2 Armstrong Aggregates Temple Stakes at Haydock tomorrow but three of last year's first four return.
With last year's winner Battaash relieved of his Group 1 penalty, he should be able to repeat last year's success, although he will have to be fully tuned up with Mabs Cross and Kachy already in winning form this year.
Here, tipster Andrew Bladen casts an eye over the runners.
MABS CROSS - A close up fourth in this race last year before winning a Group 1 at Longchamp in October, she got her season off to the perfect start when winning the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket three weeks ago but she incurs a 5lb penalty here and will do well to better last season's effort. **** ALPHA DELPHINI - Shock winner of the Nunthorpe at York last August, he lacks the benefit of a recent run and the favourite needs to underperform for him to be considered. *** BATTAASH - Defied a Group 1 penalty when making a winning return in this race last year and produced another top class performance to win at Goodwood, he does not carry a penalty this time and must be difficult to beat if fully wound up on his reappearance. ***** CASPIAN PRINCE durable old sprinter who held his form well last year winning twice but this is a tough ask after nine months off the track. ** KACHY - Beaten a head by Battaash in last year's renewal, he possesses plenty of early pace and is in great form at present having won his last three races but is worse off at the weights with his old rival and may have to settle for minor honours. **** POCKET DYNAMO - Decent enough but he is biting off more than he can chew in this company. * Bladen's 1-2-3: 1. BATTAASH, 2. KACHY, 3. MABS CROSS Guide: ***** the one to beat, **** big danger, *** should run well, ** would be a surprise, * no chance
