Barrier concern.

NEW safety barriers at the scene of a triple death have been branded an eyesore.

Highway bosses insist the new barriers on Wylam Bridge are necessary to prevent a repeat of the accident which claimed three young lives in February 2006 when their car plunged through iron railings.

But Tony Geary, a member of the Wylam Bridge Action Group has slammed their appearance. He said: "The whole edifice is a monstrosity and completely out of character for rural Northumberland." Northumberland County Council said the work is necessary to prevent another tragedy.
