Barnes & Noble reports pre-orders of over 1.2 million for new Harry Potter book.

Bookseller Barnes & Noble Inc (NYSE:BKS), announced on Thursday (12 July) that pre-orders for 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows', the seventh and final book in the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling, have totalled more than 1.2 million.

This is reportedly the largest number of pre-orders for any book in the company's history.

Barnes & Noble is expected to begin shipping the new Potter book, under tight security, to its stores starting from 16 July 2007, for its release on 21 July.

In addition over 700 Barnes & Noble stores across the US will host 'Midnight Magic Costume Parties' on 20 July 2007. Stores will remain open late and sell Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at the stroke of midnight, when it officially goes on sale.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will retail for USD20.99, a 40% discount over the list price of USD34.99. Barnes & Noble members can buy the book for USD18.89, a saving of 46%.

The company said that the compact disc and audio cassettes for the unabridged book will also be available.
