Bard Valley Medjool Date Growers Association.

Nestled in the picturesque desert mountains that surround the fertile lower Colorado River valley, the Bard Valley Medjool Date Growers Association is producing the king of Dates. This timeless delicacy is becoming known today as the jewel among California Dates.

In its country of origin, Morocco, the Medjool Date was so recognized as a delicacy that they were reserved only for the elite. However, in 1927, a disease threatened to make the Medjool Date extinct. So, in a radical move, the Chariff of Morocco gave eleven immature palms to the United States in an attempt to save it. The palms were planted and the ones that grew the best were the ones in Bard Valley, California. the dry heat, low humidity and rich riverbed soil near the Colorado irrigation were ideal for the Medjool. By the late 1940's the Medjool Palms began bearing the first of the fruit that everyone can enjoy today.

At least two and a half times bigger than other date varieties--yet its pit is no larger than it's smaller cousins, the Medjool Date is an ideal sweet snack. Medjool Dates are fat-free and a good source of fiber, Just four dates have 570 milligrams of stroke-reducing potassium and 10% of the U.S. RDA of essential magnesium. Indeed, this "candy that grows on trees" is the quick energy snack of the healthy eater.

Unlike other dates which are dried, the Medjool is picked fresh and delivered to you just like any other fresh fruit. Their high natural sugar content acts as a natural preservative, so dates do not perish at the same rate as other fruits and vegetables. In addition, Bard Valley Medjool Dates are completely safe and natural, containing absolutely no pesticides or preservatives.

With careful handling during all stages of production, the Bard Valley Medjool Date Growers Association has been producing the finest quality Medjools for several decades. The dates begin to change color around July and are ready for harvesting beginning in the early fall. Supply is now large enough for year-round availability. Medjool Dates are now a regular shelf item. Look for Medjool Dates in the bright red cartons next to bananas or apples in the produce section and partake of this, "Fruit of Kings" today!
