Barclays Wealth supports the SOAS Seminar series in the GCC.
Barclays Wealth, a global wealth management institution, in its cemented commitment to support the communities and societies it operates in, announced today its support to the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) through sponsoring the first SOAS Alumni & Friends Seminar Series in the UAE.
The series is being run by the London Middle East Institute at SOAS (LMEI).
The first seminar titled "The Water and Food Nexus: Options for the GCC" will take place on November 8 at the conference centre in DIFC.
The seminar will be led by Professor Tony Allan, a world-renowned authority on water resources management and the political economy of water in the Middle East.
Soha Nashaat, CEO of Barclays Wealth, Middle East and North Africa, said: "We are honoured to sponsor this seminar series coordinated by SOAS.
The topic is of vital importance to the sustainable development of the region and SOAS' valuable intellectual contribution to this fundamental issue complements our commitment towards the region as a whole.
""Barclays Wealth and the Barclays Group have a long tradition of supporting the local communities in which they operate, with a diverse range of sponsorships and thought leadership is one of the cornerstones of our funding priorities," added Soha.
SOAS, which is part of the University of London, is considered one of the world's leading centres for the study of a highly diverse range of subjects concerned with Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
The LMEI is specifically dedicated to promoting knowledge of all aspects of the Middle East through education, research and outreach activities.
Dr Hassan Hakimian, Director of the LMEI, said: "We are pleased to be fostering strong links with the region through this seminar series and are very grateful to Barclays Wealth for their support.
Besides helping us build closer ties in the region, this inaugural seminar will help us raise awareness and promote discussion of water resources issues, a vital policy concern for this part of the world.
