Bar plan blocked.

A new bar could face closure after a judge overturned a licensing decision.

Ultimate Leisure opened Bar Bacca at the Gresham Hotel in Jesmond, Newcastle, after it was granted a public house licence by city magistrates in December.

But campaigners, who have battled to block plans for the bar from the start, challenged the decision at the High Court in London.

Mr Justice Lightman found against Newcastle magistrates, but the bar will remain open as usual while Ultimate Leisure appeals against yesterday's judgement.

Bob Senior, managing director, said: "If the pub was to close it would leave 40 people on the dole."
