Bank Buy Barometer

We think we've stumbled across a key indicator of when the J.B. Hunt family is about to sell a bank.

If Bryan Hunt says a deal is not pending, chances are the opposite is true.

As memory serves us, every time a business reporter has contacted Hunt about a sale, he has denied that one is in the works.

Formal announcements of the sale of three Hunt banks (One National Bank of Hot Springs, One National Bank of North Little Rock and First National Bank of Fayetteville) all followed such denials.

We tried to reach Hunt to ask him if he considered it his job to intentionally mislead the media or if he just didn't know what was going on at the family banks.

The Hunts only have one more bank to sell (One National Bank of Little Rock), so this trend won't have much of a shelf life.
