BANKING AND CREDIT NEWS-January 28, 2014-Banco Santander appoints new independent director


Spanish financial services provider Banco Santander on Monday announced that its board of directors has agreed to appoint, by co-optation, Sheila Blair as an independent director of the company.

The appointment of Blair will need to be ratified at the next shareholders meeting of Banco Santander.

Blair will occupy the vacancy left on the board by Lord Burns and is expected to make a significant contribution to the bank via her international experience and her knowledge of the US financial market.
