Ban congratulates Addis Ababa Action Agenda.

NEW YORK, July 17 (KUNA) -- UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon congratulated UN member states on the adoption of the "Addis Ababa Action Agenda," the far-reaching outcome of the Third International Conference on Financing for Development in Addis Ababa. After his participation in the Third International Conference on Financing for Development that took place in Addis Ababa, Ban affirmed that the adopted Action Agenda is "a major step forward in building a world of prosperity and dignity for all." In a statement, the UN Chief said that it revitalizes the global partnership for development, establishes a strong foundation for implementation of the post-2015 development agenda, and points the way for all stakeholders for smart investments in people and the planet where they are needed, when they are needed and at the scale they are needed. Furthermore, he expressed in his statement, that the conference in Addis Ababa was the first of three milestones in the year 2015, and that the Member States have now passed this first hurdle. "Now we must work ever harder for a successful Summit on sustainable development in September in New York and for a meaningful agreement on climate change in December in Paris," he added. The Third International Conference on Financing for Development gathered from July 13 - 16 high-level political representatives, including Heads of State and Government, and Ministers of Finance, Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, as well as all relevant institutional stakeholders, non-governmental organizations and business sector entities, assessing the progress made in the implementation of the Monterrey Consensus and the Doha Declaration and identifying obstacles and constraints encountered in the achievement of the goals and objectives agreed therein, as well as actions and initiatives to overcome these constraints.
