Ballochroy heads day of surprises.

A STRING of shock results sent the layers home happy and left the executive at Clonmel today with the added bonus of a EUR22,528 jackpot rollover.

Bookmakers toasted the win of 25-1 shot Ballochroy trained by Dessie Hughes and ridden by Ian McCarthy in the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle, but the stewards were more interested in an incident before the second-last.

Nicky O'Shea was forced through the running rail on Charminamix by Slapper, whose jockey Adrian Joyce was handed a ten-day ban for dangerous riding and ordered to forfeit his riding fee. Slapper was disqualified.

Leggy Lad, owned and trained by Stephen Crawford, sprang a 16-1 surprise in the 2m3f maiden hurdle when he held off Taking Stock, who could have provided owner JP McManus with a 59th birthday present.

Katie Walsh teamed up successfully with John Coleman's 14-1 shot Hoochie Mama in the Sallins Handicap Hurdle and Double Double, owned and ridden by Paul McMahon, won the second bumper. at 20-1. Any interest in the jackpot was already over when Willie Mullins sent out 5-1 chance Cottrelsbooley to win the other bumper in the hands of his son Patrick.
