Ballet on big screen.

BALLET and opera is being screened live in Middlesbrough this summer from London's Royal Opera House.

The first screening of the ballet Mayerling by the Royal Ballet is tonight. The screenings are part of the BP Big Screens Programme 2013. Middlesbrough will be one of only 20 towns across the country screening the Royal Ballet's production of Mayerling and the Royal Opera's La Rondine and Tosca.

Charlie Rooney, Middlesbrough Council's executive councillor for regeneration, said: "The big screen has drawn big crowds for previous opera and ballet screenings, so we are delighted to be showing these latest productions in the heart of the town." Mayerling starts at 7.30pm tonight. La Rondine starts at 7.30pm on Thursday, July 11 and the final screening on Thursday, July 18 at 7.30pm is Tosca.
