Bale spurs on fans to support Cardiff rockers; Sunday Roast GOSSIP KING DAVE OWENS SERVES UP THE LATEST SHOWBIZ MORSELS.

GARETH BALE is not just the match-winning man of the moment, but it appears he's now adept at winning rock 'n' roll competitions for Welsh bands.

The Tottenham Hotspur and Wales wizard gave Cardiff's hugely promising electro rock outfit Fjords a helping hand last week when he took to his Twitter account @GarethBale11 to urge his almost half a million followers to vote for the group in the Best Band category at the British Unsigned Music Awards.

He posted: "Just voted for @wearefjords as Best Band at the 2013 Best of British Unsigned Music Awards. Good luck guys!!" It was no surprise that his crucial tweet helped the Cardiff band to scoop the award in their own particular rock 'n' roll cup final.

Although the electro-rockers were more than happy to receive Bale's blessing, they confessed they were still trying to work out how exactly he had heard of them.

"We're not complaining though," said frontman Sonny Dagur. "He can do no wrong as far as we are concerned, although I'm still trying to get my head around it."
