Bahrain participates in regional conference on human rights.
Doha, Jan 14 (BNA): Bahrain National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) has participated in the Regional Conference on UNHCHR Role in Promoting and Protecting Human Rights in the Arab Region.
The conference was organized by Qatar's National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, in cooperation with the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI).
NIHR Deputy President Abdullah Al-Dirazi and Chairman of the Civil and Political Rights Committee Jameela Salman represented Bahrain at the conference.
NHRC Chairman Dr. Ali bin Samikh Al Marri gave the opening speech followed by UNHCHR Commissioner HH Prince Zeid Ra'ad and. GCC Assistant Secretary General Ambassador Hamad bin Rashid Al-Marri gave a speech on behalf of GCC Sec-Gen Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, Arab League Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Ahmed bin Helli delivered a speech on behalf of Arab League Sec-Gen Nabeel Al-Arabi followed by Arab Parliament President Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al-Jarwan.
UNHCHR role and activities in the Arab region were discussed.
