Bahrain : Batelco introduces Gulf network in cooperation with GCC Interconnection Authority.

In cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA), Batelco has introduced the Batelco Gulf Network (BGN), offering high bandwidth and capacity.

Running over the GCCIA power grid, the BGN system offers connectivity to all GCC countries. The terrestrial fibre cable spanning around 1,400 km, is managed by Batelco.

The cable can be interconnected with regional submarine cables, offering access to onward connectivity to Europe and Asia and major regional landing stations.

Development of the BGN is to be over the state-of-the-art Optical Transport Network (OTN), aiming at offering a reliable alternative to customers and carriers to cater for their wholesale capacities with a reasonable cost.

The fibre cables are elevated on electricity pylons, and hence they are less prone to cable cuts and easier to maintain compared with buried fibre or submarine cables. With the help of these benefits, the Batelco Gulf Network gains a unique advantage over other regional cable systems by introducing a fully protected ring on both submarine and terrestrial routes.
