Bahadur Shah Zafar was hero of war of independence.
ISLAMABAD -- The Mughal Society of Pakistan on Monday said Bahadur Shah Zafar was the hero of the war of independence and his role should not be overlooked.
The last Mughal emperor sacrificed his whole family for the cause of the independence which should be acknowledged at all levels, it said.
The seventeenth and the last emperor was very popular among the masses and he never disappointed the masses throughout his life, said Baig Raj, President of the Mughal Society.
Bahadur Shah Zafar not only played important role in the war of independence but also continued his war through pen until his death while in exile at Rangoon in Burma, he added.
The emperor was subjected to torture through plundering his fort, killing princess and leaving him unattended in the Rangoon which shows the cruelty of the British, he said.
He said that Government should strive to bring his remains to Pakistan to be buried in the tomb of Jahangir while the Mughal community is ready to bear all the cost.
He said that the 155th death anniversary is being observed on Nov 07 across the Pakistan while food will be distributed among needy at Sunday Bazaar from 1pm to 3 pm.
