Badger Paper Mills reports 1994 results.
This compares to a $4.061 million loss in 1993, or $2.07 per share (The 1993 results included a restructuring charge of $2.630 million, net of taxes, relating to the closure and disposition of the company's former Dayton Division).
The company's 1994 net sales of $73.67 million compared to $76.57 million in 1993.
The weakness of the uncoated free sheet market during 1992 and 1993 continued through the first half of 1994. Product demand began to firm during the third quarter, and by year-end order activity became robust. Pricing adjustments announced during the third and fourth quarter were insufficient to offset rising fiber prices which occurred throughout 1994. The increased cost of purchased fiber alone affected 1994 earnings by $1.29 per share.
The flexible packaging segment of the company continued to remain strong throughout the year. The backlog of orders grew throughout 1994, and machine production was maintained at near capacity levels.
