Awards, honors and achievements

DECORATED DRAGONS - Five members of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps unit based in Eugene captured second place during a "Flagship" competition of 12 Northwest units Oct. 12 in Gorst, Wash.

The Sea Dragons competed in such areas as first aid, land navigation, knowledge, color guard, semaphore, knot tying and endurance course. Team members were Joseph Strub of Sheldon High, Timothy Downard of Thurston High, Anthony Merrill of Springfield High, Forest Solis of South Eugene High, Christopher Jones of Briggs Middle School and Elliott Lauritzen of Madison Middle.
