Back to black as Goth makes welcome return; OnTrend.

Byline: Lisa Piddington

AS A teenager, I took my Goth look very seriously indeed. My 'uniform' consisted mainly of skirts that swept the floor, ruffled shirts, tight bodices, lace and military-style jackets. And the most important thing - everything had to be black.

So it's a real nostalgic look for me and I'm always delighted to see Gothic-inspired fashions back on the high street. For autumn/winter 2010 the look goes vampy, as grunge meets glamour full on.

The great news is this is a simple trend to follow and as flattering as it is feminine. Don't be afraid to mix your textures - velvet, brocade and lace work beautifully together - while a chic little black dress can be teamed with a grungy cardigan for maximum impact Finish off with black nail varnish and red lips and, with Halloween just around the corner, you're ready to enter the dark side of style.
