Back in the limelight.

ELUSIVE British actor and Oscar-winning star of In The Name Of The Father, Daniel Day-Lewis, arrives to a huge welcome reception at the Irish premier of Martin Scorcese's epic Gangs Of New York in Dublin. Showing off a closely-shaved hair style and wearing an elegant dinner jacket and black bow tie, Daniel looked relaxed as he chatted to fans outside the Savoy cinema.

His appearance marked his return after five years out of the international spotlight. Daniel, 44, went into self-imposed exile from film work after starring in 1997 smash The Boxer - reportedly swopped Hollywood glitz and glamour for the simple life of a cobbler in Italy. He has been named best actor for his role as villainous Bill Butcher (right) in Gangs Of New York by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, and is being hotly tipped for an Oscar for his intense performance.
