THE newborn daughter of tragic crash victim Nicola Kenny is due to be released from hospital within days.

Little Lily Rose, who was born just a day before her mum lost her life on Monday, has been looked after by medical staff since her birth.

Nicola, from Thurles, Co Tipperary, was in a car with mother Ann and aunt Irene Whelan when they were involved in a collision with a lorry on the hard shoulder of the M8.

The 26-year-old, who was in the rear of the vehicle, had given birth on Sunday and was being driven to Temple Street Hospital in Dublin after the baby had been transferred hours after being born.

It is understood she had just been told Lily Rose's condition had improved and she was being returned to South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel.

Nicola's heartbroken sister-inlaw Anne-Marie Kenny took to Facebook earlier this week to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support.

GENEROUS She posted: "Thank you so much to all of my family and friends for messages, texts, phone calls and calling to the house, it has been very much appreciated by us both.

"It is lovely to see so many very generous people of Thurles coming out to support the family.

"It hasn't gone unnoticed thanks to each & every one of you from the bottom of our hearts.

"We all have to stick together now for Lily Rose, she is coming home in a few days."

One friend replied: "[Nicola] was one of my best friends and was always there for me through everything and I will never forget that. "She was one in a million and my heart is broke."

At the Cathedral Of The Assumption in Thurles on Thursday, Father Vincent Stapleton said that the tragedy came just days after the county was celebrating success on the hurling field.

He added: "Little did we know that just down the road in Kennedy Park the Kenny family and local community around them were left reeling as the news of Nicola's tragic death filtered through.

"We pray for Lily Rose now and ask Nicola and God's guardian angel to continue to watch over her from Heaven."
