Baby P boss got pay rise a week after he died.

SOCIAL work chief Sharon Shoesmith got a pay rise the week after the death of battered baby Peter Connelly, it emerged yesterday.

Her Haringey Council department, who failed to pick up the abuse of Peter by his mother's brutal lover, was described by an inspector as the worst he had ever seen.

But she was also treated to dinner by the London authority's chief executive Ita O' Donnell immediately after she refused to apologise to the father of Peter, known at first as Baby P, for failing his 17-month-old son.

The revelations came as Shoesmith, 56, launched a legal challenge to her sacking over the death of Peter in the High Court in London.

The court was told Shoesmith was left suicidal and financially ruined when she was "unlawfully" sacked, Her lawyers claimed the sacking, ordered by Children's Secretary Ed Balls, was a political move.
