Baby Einstein: The ABCs of Art.

Julie Aigner-Clark (illustrated by Nadiem Zaldi). New York, NY: Hyperion Press, 2002. Illus., hardcover, 64 pp., $15.99.

This is a large hardcover children's book that offers a rather eclectic collection of reproduced pictures. The artwork is by artists ranging from Audubon and Albers, to Rembrandt and Renoir, for example. On facing pages are the letters decorated in fancy frames, a word relating to an object in the picture, and some questions such as: "What song do you imagine the man is playing for the little girls?" or "What animals do you think live in this forest?" A cartoonish blue goat supplies some comic relief as well. The reproductions can be useful to add to other resources to show some of the diversity of artistic imagery. A concluding page of "Ideas for Parents" is helpful for those using this book at home.
