Babar Awan calls for holding senate polls directly rather than indirectly through provincial assemblies.
ISLAMABAD -- PPP leader Babar Awan has said Senate polls are looking stock market combination demanding that Senate polls should be held directly rather than indirectly through provincial assemblies..
Talking to a private TV channel he alleged Saturday that tickets for senate polls are awarded on the basis of favoritism. Several Sindhis are becoming Potohari and several Punjabi are becoming Sindhi for the sake of Senate ticket, he added.
He held that all the parties are crying that money is being used in the polls. Ruling party of Punjab has made it a dumping ground and the person who could not win seat from Sindh is being awarded ticket from Punjab. On the other hand Sindh is awarding ticket to people of Punjab. In Balochistan, senate tickets have been awarded to two relatives of one ruling party leader.
He said that ruling party has ignored its workers. One ticket has been awarded to Iqbal Zafar Jhagra who contested elections from province the whole life and now he has given a surprise that he is residing in Islamabad.
I want to invite the attention of judiciary that as per law any one who gives false statement or takes or gives bribery or promises to give bribery is corrupt and is not entitled to contest Senate polls , he said. " victory and defeat is integral part of polls but the horse trading and the prevailing method of distribution of tickets defeat the purpose of equal representation. Tickets should be awarded in conformity with law and Senate polls be held directly rather than indirectly through provincial assemblies, he demanded.
