BUTTREY FOOD AND DRUG CO. NAMES DIRECTOR PERISHABLES MERCHANDISING

 GREAT FALLS, Mont., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Joseph H. Fernandez, president and chief executive officer of Buttrey Food and Drug Co. (NASDAQ: BTRY) announced today that Dennis C. Brucker had been appointed director perishables merchandising. The position is new at Buttrey.
 In his new capacity Brucker will be responsible for all aspects of sales, merchandising, and gross profit for the Meat, Seafood, Bakery and Deli Departments at Buttrey. He will report to the vice president sales and marketing, who has yet to be named.
 Brucker began his career with Kroger Co. in Louisville, Ky., in 1977. While with Kroger, he held various management positions including meat department manager and store manager. In 1982 he joined Super Foods Wholesale Grocers in Cincinnati as merchandising representative. In 1984 he joined Marline Corp. of Cincinnati and served as a meat and deli merchandiser. In 1986 he became head buyer for a major retail wholesaler, C & S Wholesale Inc. in Brattleboro, Vt., a position he held until 1988 when he became general manager for Scot Lad/Roundy's in Evansville, Ind. Most recently he was director meat, deli and bakery for the Miami Division of Fleming Foods.
 Fernandez said, "Buttrey is extremely pleased to attract someone of Dennis Brucker's caliber. His experience in procurement and merchandising will strengthen our merchandising team."
 Buttrey Food and Drug Co. is headquartered in Great Falls, and currently operates 45 stores and three Distribution Centers in Montana, Wyoming, Washington, North Dakota and Utah.
