BUSINESS MATTERS: Fir st seminar on jockeys weight management.

JOCKEY CLUB chief medical adviser Michael Turner has organised the first seminar to be held in Britain to consider weight management, as it applies to dehydration and diet, in sport.

The focus will be on jockeys, but health risks in other sports that include weight categories are due to be covered in a series of presentations by well-known experts such as Prof Craig Sharp of Brunel University and Prof Ron Maughan of Loughborough University.

Chief feature of the event will be a presentation of a dehydration study carried out by the University of Limerick for the Irish Turf Club, whose preliminary findings were aired for the first time at the Asian Racing Conference in May.

The all-day seminar is on Wednesday at the Royal Society of Medicine in London's Wimpole Street, starting at 10am.

A few places are available and can be booked through Jockey Club medical administrator Prue Bester on 020 7189 3838.
