Springfield/Eugene Habitat for Humanity has announced three new board members effective Jan. 1: Ryan Bishop, the director of operations at Professional Global Exchange; Zack Hegge, owner of Fresh Directions; and Jonathan Price, an associate at gLAs Architects.

Hummingbird Wholesale in Eugene has been named a finalist in Green America's People & Planet Awards. The national contest focuses on different sustainability themes each season and awards three businesses or organizations a $5,000 prize every quarter. This quarter's theme is zero waste. Hummingbird Wholesale was the only Oregon business selected as one of 10 finalists among nearly 1,000 nominations.

Eugene Urgent Care, located in the Coburg Road and University District areas of Eugene, and Thurston Urgent Care in the Thurston area of Springfield have received the Certified Urgent Care designation, which distinguishes them as true urgent care centers.

Ed King, CEO of King Estate Winery, has been awarded the 2013 Oregon Vintner of the Year by Classic Wines Auction. He manages winery operations and is a former CWA board member and active supporter of the Oregon Environmental Council and the Oregon Wine Institute. The award will be presented March 1 at the Oregon Convention Center. Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce leaders recently presented the Heritage Award to The Register- Guard in recognition of its partnership and commitment to the Springfield chamber. Bridget Baker received the award at the Chamber's First Quarterly Membership Breakfast.

Colt Gill, superintendent of the Bethel School District, has been elected 2013 chairman of the United Way of Lane County board of directors effective January of this year. Gill succeeds attorney Gerry Gaydos, the 2012 board chairman.
