The man assigned by the Governor of the Bank of England to monitor the pulse of the West Midlands' economy is to meet the region's top business figures to hear their thoughts.

The Hereford and Worcestershire branch of the Institute of Directors has organised an event on January 14 at Worcester University so that its members can meet and perhaps influence John Bartlett, regional agent for the Bank.

And flybe chief commercial officer Mike Rutter will be the main speaker at the IOD West Midlands Business Lecture on January 31 at the Botanical Gardens, Edgbaston.

Midlands-based Garvins has been appointed as actuarial consultant for the Whitecroft Lydney Pension Fund and Life Insurance Scheme.

The scheme has around 250 members and approximately pounds 5 million of assets in its defined benefits scheme.

KPMG were the previous actuaries. Craig Stansfield is the new scheme actuary.

And Garvins has been appointed as the actuarial consultants for the Softlab Pension Plan.

The scheme has over 150 members and approximately pounds 20 million of assets in their defined benefits scheme.

Mark Frost is the new scheme actuary.

Midlands-based automotive and commercial specialist Adonis Construction has completed a new pounds 2.5 million depot in Worksop for Keltruck, the UK's largest independent Scania dealer.

Warwickshire-based business consultant, Susan Heppell, of Business Plan Innovation Service, has won the 2007 Towergate Special Award, an annual accolade from the Institute of Business Consulting.

Jobcentre Plus in Evesham is working with Amcor Flexibles to recruit 60 people as the firm looks to expand at its Four Pools Industrial Estate site in the town. Amcor produces printed film for customers in the food market.

Bromsgrove civil and structural engineering consultancy Shire Structures' QuickBase foundation system for conservatories and lightweight buildings was named Best Exterior Product' at the recent Interbuild 2007 at the NEC, Birmingham.

Simultaneously, Shire's sister company Shire Consulting won two accolades in the Wood Awards for designing the new school library at King's, Worcester.

Wolverhampton-based Industrial Cleaning Machines won the award for Vehicle of the Year, for the Eco Sweep 360, at the Chartered Institution Of Wastes Management awards ceremony held at the Dorchester Hotel in London.
