 BURTON GROUP NAMES EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS
LONDON, May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of the Burton Group today

announced that Terry Green, chief executive, Debenhams, and Geoffrey Powell, who takes up the newly created position of group operations director, have been appointed executive directors of the company with immediate effect. Richard Pym, chief executive, services sector, is leaving the company and has resigned from the board.
Green, aged 40, joined the Burton Group in 1978. After holding various posts in Burton Menswear, Top Shop and Dorothy Perkins, he joined Debenhams in 1989 as buying and merchandising director of womenswear. He was appointed chief executive of Debenhams in February 1992 when John Hoerner, former Debenhams chairman, was named group chief executive.
Powell, aged 47, joined the group in December 1991 as chief executive, fashion multiples sector, having previously been an executive director of Kingfisher plc and chairman of B&Q and Comet.
Martin McNamee, an executive director since June 1991, becomes managing director of Burton Menswear, replacing Brian Moody, who is leaving the company. McNamee has held various positions in the group over the past 15 years, most recently as managing director of Top Shop/Top Man.
Hoerner said, "I am delighted to welcome Terry and Geoff to the board of the Burton Group. They will join Martin and me to form the nucleus of the group's retailing management.
"These changes are an important part of our decision, announced today, to discontinue the group's previous practice of treating service functions as trading divisions and to dismantle the 'multiples' and 'services' sectors, folding all activities into one central group function. The new set-up will shorten the lines of communication and improve the effectiveness of the support all divisions receive from the group.
"I would like to thank Richard Pym and Brian Moody for their contributions to the group."
The managing directors of Burton Menswear, Dorothy Perkins, Evans/IS, Top Shop/Top Man and Principles report directly to the group chief executive under the new group structure.
