BURT MANNING TO CHAIR SPANISH CREATIVITY SESSION AT INTERNATIONAL
 ADVERTISING ASSOCIATION'S 33RD WORLD CONGRESS
NEW YORK, Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Burt Manning, chairman and chief executive officer of J. Walter Thompson Company, will head a special session focusing on Spanish creativity on the second full day of the International Advertising Association's 33rd World Advertising Congress, "The Great Debate," Sept. 28-30, 1992 in Barcelona, Spain.
Featured speakers of the session include Jose Maria LaPena, Contrapunto/BBDO and Michael Malka, Nadafilms.
On Spanish creative, Manning notes, "Spain has won the Grand Prix in the Cannes Festival, and a disproportionate number of other prizes for the number of entries. This has been going on for several years.
"In these days of globalization and pan-European advertising, we can look at Spain as one of the best 'advertising production centers.' Importantly, this is related to creative and advertising idea generation, as well as the excellence of its technical production.
"In the liberal environment now in Spain, there is a great joy of life and zest for living, and this shows in the entertaining and enjoyable work that is being produced."
Manning heads a 128-year-old company with 178 offices in 44 countries and which is a leader in most of the markets in which it operates. Worldwide, JWT serves more than 1,000 clients with gross billings of more than $5.0 billion.
Manning joined JWT in Chicago as a copywriter and later transferred to New York where he became creative director. In 1978, he was named vice chairman of J. Walter Thompson Company with worldwide creative responsibility, and in 1980, chairman and chief executive officer of J. Walter Thompson USA.
After a brief partnership at another agency, Manning returned to J. Walter Thompson as chairman and chief executive officer in 1987, immediately following the merger of the WPP Group with JWT.
Manning was named "Agency Executive of the Year" by Adweek magazine in March 1990. And in 1991, JWT was chosen as Campaign magazine's "Agency of the Year."
