BURROUGHS WELLCOME HELPS PHARMACIES REBUILD INVENTORIES
 AFTER LOS ANGELES' KING RIOTS
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- To demonstrate its support of restoring critical services, Burroughs Wellcome Co. is providing free "Disaster Relief" packets of its most commonly-stocked pharmaceutical products to all Los Angeles-area pharmacies that suffered losses to their pharmaceutical departments as a result of the recent riots in the southern part of that city.
"This goodwill effort by Burroughs Wellcome is much needed and appreciated. For the businesses devastated and victimized by the violence here, this is an excellent way to help them rebuild," said Dr. Robert Marshall, executive director of the California Pharmacists Association.
Approximately 70 businesses have filed reports with the California State Board of Pharmacy to date. To file a report, pharmacies may contact the State Board at 916-445-5014.
According to Dr. Ray Wolf, director of pharmacy relations at Burroughs Wellcome Co., the company will begin shipping packets immediately to affected pharmacies whose premises are still standing and are in business, or operating out of temporary quarters. Pharmacies totally destroyed will be offered the "Disaster Relief" packet when they resume operation. "We're pleased to be able to demonstrate our interest and support in getting these businesses up and running again," Wolf said.
Among the Burroughs Wellcome products contained in the "Disaster Relief" packets are: Zovirax(R) brand acyclovir, Retrovir(R) brand zidovudine, Lanoxin(R) brand digoxin, Wellbutrin(R) brand bupropion, Septra(R) brand trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, Imuran(R) brand azathioprine, Leukeran(R) brand chlorambucil, Purinethol(R) brand mercaptopurine, Cortisporin(R) Opthalmic (polymyxin B-sulfate), Cortisporin Otic (polymyxin B-neomycin hydrocortisone), Neosporin(R) (polymyxin B-sulfate bacitracin zinc-neomycin sulfate), Polysporin(R) (polymyxin B-bacitracin), PediOtic(R) (polymyxin B-sulfate neomycin sulfate-hydrocortisone), Viroptic(R) brand trifluridine, Zyloprim(R) brand allopurinol and Nix(R) Creme Rinse 1 percent permethrin.
