BURNS AEROSPACE CORP. TO OPEN NEW
 MANUFACTURING AND SERVICING SUBSIDIARY
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Burns Aerospace Corporation will open a new manufacturing and servicing subsidiary. Burns Aerospace (Ireland) Limited, in Shannon, Ireland, this month.
G.B. Jewell, president of Burns, said today that the facility will serve the commercial airline industry in the European community (EC) and, to a lesser extent, airlines in former East Bloc countries, the Middle East, Africa and Russia.
Jewell said that the company will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Burns Aerospace, formerly The Jepson Burns Corporation. "Burns Limited will complement our primary manufacturing center in Winston-Salem and give us a much stronger presence in the EC. It will enable us to increase the level of service to our international customers and to increase our production capacity," Jewell said.
The subsidiary will make new aircraft seats and seat parts and refurbish existing seats and will modify seats for the installation of air-to-ground telephones and other audio and video systems.
Burns Limited will be located in an existing 40,000 square-foot building in the Shannon Free Zone at Shannon International Airport. The company will have approximately 100 employees when fully operational in 1994.
"We chose Ireland because of its strategic location in the European Community, and because of the benefits of the free trade zone," Jewell said. "Ireland has abundant skilled labor, and the Shannon area is fast becoming a center of aviation services."
The creation of Burns Ltd. carries Burns one step closer to its goal of becoming a global operation. Over half of the company's revenues now come from carriers and aircraft manufacturers based outside the United States. Burns currently has joint ventures or affiliates in Russia, Brazil, Canada, Japan and Spain. It also has a West Coast facility in Los Angeles.
Burns is the world's largest manufacturer of commercial aircraft seating and also produces a wide range of items for aircraft interiors. The company is a subsidiary of Eagle Industries, Inc. of Chicago.
