BURLINGTON NAMES GEORGE HENDERSON PRESIDENT AND CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER; PROMOTES THREE OTHER EXECUTIVES

 GREENSBORO, N.C., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of Burlington Industries Equity Inc. (NYSE: BUR) today elected George W. Henderson, III president and chief operating officer of the company. The announcement was made by Frank S. Greenberg, chairman and chief executive officer.
 The board also promoted four other executives:
 Bernard A. Leventhal, Abraham B. Stenberg and Gary P. Welchman were named executive vice presidents. Leventhal heads the Burlington Menswear division. Stenberg heads the Burlington House division and will assume senior responsibility for the Burlington House Area Rugs division as well. Welchman has responsibility for the Burlington Klopman Fabrics and Burlington Knits divisions, and will also be responsible for the Burlington Madison Yarn division. All three executives will report to George Henderson.
 John D. Englar was named senior vice president, Finance and Law, reporting to Donald R. Hughes, vice chairman and chief financial officer. Englar also continues to serve as general counsel of the company.
 Henderson, 44, joined Burlington in 1974. He headed Burlington's sportswear operations in Europe from 1978 to 1982, when he was named president of Burlington Denim. He became a corporate group vice president in 1986 and was given responsibility for the company's Lees Carpets and Burlington House Area Rugs divisions in 1989, in addition to the Denim division. He was elected to the board of directors in 1990. A native of Atlanta, he holds a BA degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MBA from Emory University. He and his wife, the former Lindsay Chapman, have two children and live in Greensboro.
 Leventhal, 60, joined Burlington in 1958 and was named President of the Burlington Menswear division in 1978. He was named a corporate group vice president in 1985 and was elected to the board of directors in 1990. He is a graduate of Lowell Technological Institute in Lowell, Mass., and received an MBA degree from Harvard University.
 Stenberg, 57, joined the company in 1957 and was named president of the Burlington House division in 1970. He was named a corporate group vice president in 1973 and was elected to the board of directors in 1990. He is a graduate of North Carolina State University at Raleigh and received an MBA degree from Harvard University.
 Welchman, 49, joined Burlington in 1969 and was named president of the Burlington Klopman Fabrics division in 1986. He was named a corporate group vice president in 1991. He is a graduate of Norwich University in Northville, Vt.
 Englar, 46, joined Burlington in 1978. He was named associate general counsel and assistant secretary in 1980, was appointed secretary in 1983, and in 1984 was elected vice president, general counsel and secretary. He was elected to the board of directors in 1990. He is a graduate of Duke University, where he also received his law degree.
