BURLINGTON ENVIRONMENTAL COLLECTS 1168 DRUMS OF WASTE
FROM PORTLAND-AREA HOUSEHOLDS
SEATTLE, Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- At three simultaneous events on Oct. 12, Burlington Environmental collected nearly 1,200 drums of household hazardous waste from residents of Vancouver, Wash. and the Aloha and Gresham neighborhoods of Portland, Ore., the company said today. The events were sponsored by Portland Metro and Clark County.
"The collection events provided local citizens an opportunity to dispose of old or unwanted products which are commonly used around the home, from the garden, garage, kitchen or utility room," said Burlington Environmental President John Craig.
"We collected all kinds of products--mostly paints, but also oil, antifreeze, car batteries, furniture and floor polishes, drain openers, cleansers, weed killers and pesticides," continued Craig who took his turn at helping collect waste from residents at each of the three collection sites.
All sites were operated without injury, spills or incident. After preparing appropriate waste-tracking records, the waste products were transported to the company's treatment, storage and disposal facilities in Washington state for proper treatment or disposal. The company estimates that about 80 percent of the materials will be treated and recycled. Burlington Environmental manages and operates 50 such household hazardous waste collection events every year for jurisdictions throughout Washington and Oregon.
