BURLINGTON COMPANY AWARDED FEDERAL CONTRACT
 BURLINGTON, On., Feb. 14 /CNW/ - Bill Kempling, Member of Parliament for Burlington, aanounced today on behalf of the Honourable Michael Wilson, Minister of Industry, Science and Technology and Minister for International Trade, that Zenon Environmental Systems, of Burlington, will receive a federal contract valued at $1.6 million under the Defence Industry Productivity Program to expand its operations.
 The company plans to undertake development and demonstration of two prototype wasterwater treatment systems utilizing membrane enhanced biological treatment technology to meet the specific requirements for the clean-up of surface and ground waters at military sites that have been contaminated by wastes in combinations unique to military locations.
 "This is a significant project for Zenon," said Mr. Kempling. "It will lead to the creation of 30 new jobs and will generate incremental sales of $44 million for the compnay over five years. In addition, it is expected to open up new market opportunities for Zenon's other environmental products."
 The project will proceed under the terms of the Defence Industry Productivity Program, the objective of which is to develop defence technology to improve the compnay's ability to grown and prosper while strengthening the Canadian and North American defence industrial base. Developing advanced technology for defence-related products and production processes is one of the major goals of the program. It is used by companies in a wide range of industry sectors, including electronics, avionics, transportation equipment and engines, machinery, navigation equipment, metallurgy and materials and space technology.
