BUILDERS SQUARE GETS BEHIND HURRICANE RELIEF EFFORT
 WITH $10,000 CASH CONTRIBUTION
SAN ANTONIO, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Builders Square, Inc., a national chain of warehouse-style home-improvement centers based in San Antonio, announced today that it is contributing $10,000 in cash to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, to aid in the relief effort for victims of Hurricane Andrew. The announcement was made this morning by Rick Meiser, senior vice president of marketing, Builders Square, and Randy Weddle, executive director, San Antonio Area Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Builders Square operates more than 161 stores nationwide, eight of which are located in the Miami area.
According to Meiser, "Our hearts go out to the thousands of Americans who have been left homeless and hurt by this terrible tragedy ... We are pleased and gratified to support the courageous efforts of the American Red Cross, whose quick response to this disaster is exemplary."
According to Weddle, the Red Cross San Antonio Chapter has received nearly $24,000 in cash contributions over the last three days. However, according to Red Cross sources here, after three years of record- breaking, back-to-back disasters, the national Disaster Relief Fund is in deep deficit and has been completely drained.
Builders Square is maintaining a "business as usual" approach in sustaining its retail operations in the Miami market. According to Builders Square representatives located in South Florida, seven of the company's eight stores are fully operational and are being continually restocked with the necessary life-support and building materials.
Builders Square, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Kmart Corporation (NYSE: KM).
