BUICK LESABRE WINS FAMILY CIRCLE'S 'DOMESTIC FAMILY CAR OF YEAR' AWARD

BUICK LESABRE WINS FAMILY CIRCLE'S 'DOMESTIC FAMILY CAR OF YEAR' AWARD
NEW YORK, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Buick's 1992 LeSabre has won the prestigious "Domestic Family Car of the Year" award presented annually by Family Circle, the magazine's editors announced today.
The award is based on a major independent national survey of American car-buying families.
Survey results showed drivers ranked dependability/reliability as the No. 1 reason to buy LeSabre. The hot-selling Buick model is a full- size front-wheel-drive sedan with a 3.8-liter "3800" V-6 engine, electronically controlled automatic transmission, driver air bag and optional anti-lock brakes (standard of LeSabre Limited), among a long list of features.
LeSabre was also ranked No. 1 in six other categories that Family Circle research has shown to be important in the selection of family vehicles -- performance and handling, safety, appearance and styling, value for the money, space and comfort and satisfaction with the dealer.
LeSabre was the No. 1-selling full-size car in the U.S. market in the 1992 model year, which ended Sept. 30. Sales of LeSabre, which was redesigned for '92, totaled 145,290 -- a 43.2-percent increase from the 101,470 the previous model year.
"Family Circle is the only consumer magazine to sponsor an automobile awards program based entirely on the opinions of families buying new cars across the country," said Valerie Salembier, the magazine's publisher. "We established the 'Family Car of the Year' award program to guide consumers by objectively reporting which vehicles proved most satisfactory in numerous important categories to families buying new cars."
Buick General Manager Edward H. Mertz accepted the award in New York today.
"The Family Circle award is certainly one of the top recognitions any automobile can receive," Mertz said. "We are particularly pleased because this award is based on a major survey of customers."
LeSabre has also won a number of "best buy" and "best value" recognitions from publications and market-research firms in the last year.
The LeSabre is built at the Buick City Assembly Center in Buick's home town of Flint, Mich.
