BUICK CONSOLIDATES ZONES

FLINT, Mich., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Buick Motor Division is consolidating its field offices in Pittsburgh and Charlotte, N.C., to meet General Motors' (NYSE: GM) salaried staffing requirements while continuing to serve Buick dealers, announced Robert E. Coletta, Buick general sales and service manager.
Most Pittsburgh operations will move to Philadelphia, and Charlotte to Atlanta.
Pittsburgh and Charlotte district managers and district service managers, who work with dealers to sell and service Buicks, will continue to call on dealers in their established districts. Assistant zone managers for sales and service also will continue to operate as usual. All other zone support functions, such as car distribution and clerical activities, will be consolidated with the Philadelphia and Atlanta zone offices.
"All sales districts will remain intact," Coletta said to Buick employees in announcing the changes Wednesday. "In fact, as we went through the process of determining the best way to run the business while streamlining staffs, we vowed that service to dealers would not be compromised."
While some positions at Buick are being eliminated, no employees will be laid off or demoted, Coletta said. All reductions are being accomplished through normal attrition and retirements.
Along with the field consolidation, Buick's home office in Flint also will be restructured to gain efficiencies, Coletta said.
"The home office restructuring basically involves eliminating redundancies, increasing the span of leadership of all our employees, and more effectively aligning individuals and teams that perform similar tasks," he said.
