BUFFALO, N.Y., Nov. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- In separate agreements with a combined value of several million dollars, two local firms have reaffirmed MCI as their choice for long distance telecommunications.
Cardinal Distribution Inc., the Dublin, Ohio-based parent company of Ellicott Drug in Buffalo, has chosen MCI's outbound, toll-free 800 and audioconferencing services for its Ohio headquarters and 14 subsidiary locations across the U.S. under a three-year, $3.6 million pact.
Separately, Upgrade Corporation of America will utilize MCI's 800, outbound and data services at its Buffalo headquarters in a three-year, $1.8 million agreement.
Cardinal, one of the fastest growing companies in the health care distribution industry, uses MCI 800 Service to accept product orders at Ellicott and its other wholesale distributors from hospitals, pharmacies and other end-users. In addition, MCI data services are used to provide links between each of Cardinal's locations to facilitate delivery of time-sensitive inventory and financial information critical to its business.
MCI Vnet, a virtual private network service, will be used for Cardinal's outbound calling, while MCI Forum, a leading audioconferencing service, will be used by management for internal meetings and conferences.
"Increasing efficiency and reducing costs are crucial in today's health care environment," said Bill Bottinger, vice president of MIS for Cardinal. "MCI has been dedicated to helping us achieve these goals, and the support from them has been outstanding."
Upgrade Corporation of America (UCA) is a leader in providing technology processing services to software publishers in the microcomputer industry, including software sales and distribution. UCA uses MCI 800 Service and its enhanced features to accept customer orders and provide customer support on a variety of computer software issues. Through use of MCI's Dialed Number Identification Service, calls to UCA's 800 numbers are distinguished by the specific number called, then routed automatically to the proper service department for handling.
"We have to deliver every day, on every call, on behalf of our customers," said Gary Crosby, UCA's chief operating officer. "And that's exactly what MCI has done for us, too, with their outstanding account support, competitive pricing and leading-edge services."
"We are pleased with the strong relationships that have developed with both Cardinal and UCA," said Maggie Quinn, MCI's branch manager for Western Upstate New York. "We are dedicated to their continued success in their respective industries, and pleased to play a critical part in their growth and service to customers."
