BUDWEISER STARS IN SHERIFF'S 1993 GAMES

LOS ANGELES, March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- This summer more than 6,000 state and local law enforcement officers will converge on Los Angeles County to compete in athletic competition. The rivalry is part of the 1993 Police Summer Games, June 20-26.
The games will take place at locations throughout Los Angeles County and at Camp Pendleton, Glen Helen Regional Park and in Claremont. The public is invited to attend all of the nearly 45 events that are sanctioned by the California Police Athletic Federation.
Sheriff Sherman Block, his department and the Los Angeles Sheriff's Athletic Association are hosts to this 27th annual contest. All federal, state and local law enforcement agencies within California have been invited to participate.
Anheuser-Busch Inc. and its Southern California family of Budweiser wholesalers are major corporate sponsors.
Don Heimark, president of Triangle/Budweiser Distributing (Santa Fe Springs), and Jeff Lewis, president of Foothill/Budweiser Beverage (Pomona), represented the brewer and fellow Budweiser wholesalers in presenting $40,000 to Block in support of the games.
Chief Mike Graham of the Sheriff's Department said other sponsors of the games are the City of Industry, Sheriff's Relief Association and Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs (ALADS). The games are held every summer at different locations throughout the state and hosted by the chief law enforcement officer of that area.
This is the first time that the Los Angeles County Sheriff has sponsored the engagement, according to Graham, who is also executive director of the 1993 games.
The action encompasses more than 45 Olympic-style events, plus flag football, pocket billiards, motocross, surfing and police dog competition. The Industry Hills Sheraton Resort is the host hotel and is the site of 12 events.
Venues for the contests include Mt. San Antonio College, Cal Poly Pomona, Bonelli Regional Park, Glen Helen Regional Park and Camp Pendleton.
The cities of Bellflower, Long Beach, Lakewood and Malibu will also have event sites. There are 15 locations throughout the Southland where the contest will be held.
