AS the brand communications manager for a major company providing gift wrap and greetings cards to some of the biggest names in retail, Katie Brickle's days can be furiously busy.

But she has created her own sanctuary as the perfect place to wind down every day.

After saving hard Katie, 35, had a custom-designed bathroom fitted in her one-bed property in Llandaff, Cardiff.

And while most people regard the living room as the place they couldn't do without, for Katie, who works for Design Group in Ystrad Mynach, it's this small, but perfectly-formed room.

"The house was built in the year I was born," she said.

"It was attractive to me because of the area and the big garden.

"I was a first-time buyer as I had just moved back after living abroad for six years.

"It was a nice little onebed house, but when I said yes to buying it I didn't realise that the bath tub was orange.

"I hadn't paid any attention to the actual colour of the bathroom, which also had one of those 'baby' sinks.

"So I saved really hard and about six years ago I had it ripped out."

The room was transformed from top to bottom, with Katie opting for soothing sand-colour Egyptian tiles on the walls and floor and a white suite, which would be a more calming colour to come home to.

She also insisted on a much bigger bath.

Katie has covered one wall with artwork containing inspiration quotes, which she takes quite literally.

One of the artworks says: "Start your day with a smile and finish it with Champagne", so Katie always ensures it's not just her tub which is filled with bubbles.

"After a really busy day I just come home and light lots of candles, fill the bath and open a bottle of Prosecco. I love to have one every evening.

"It's a big, relaxing bath and I like to use lots of different brands and smells of candle, including one which has a gin and tonic smell.

"I also love using essential oils in my bath but as I've just started running for charity, I also use Epsom salts now.

"This is the perfect way for me to end my days."
