BTEA elects new chairman.

Jim H. Jones, president and cofounder of TDX Construction Corporation, has been elected Board chairman of the Building Trades Employers' Association, the city's largest and most diverse contractor association.

Jones was elected this past January for a one year term. He succeeds Larry Weiss of AJ McNulty Inc.

As chairman, Jones' responsibilities include advocating on behalf of the BTEA with public policymakers and industry leaders, as well as overseeing the organization's committee structure.

He also will work with BTEA member companies, organized labor, the real estate community and public officials to help develop policies making worksites safer in New York City.

"I am proud to be at the helm of the BTEA at such an exciting time for New York's construction industry," said Jones, chairman of the Board of BTEA and president and co-founder of TDX Construction Corp.

"Not only will New York see an unprecedented building boom over the next few years, but the industry as a whole has an opportunity to enact some significant reforms in the areas of worksite safety and workforce development."

A 40-year industry veteran, Jones' real estate experience runs the gamut from his first job as a bricklayer in Local 34 to project manager at a large, national construction firm.

In 1980, he co-founded TDX Construction and built it into a full-service construction management firm that specializes in complex urban projects.

Under his leadership, TDX has managed the construction of projects such as the award-winning Baruch College Academic Complex, the College of Staten Island at Willowbrook and Columbia University's Audobon III Biomedical Facility.

He has spearheaded TDX's role as construction manager for Take the Field, Inc., an ac claimed public/private partnership that strives to bring new vitality to run-down athletic facilities.

Jones also serves as president of the NY City Building Contractor's Association and board member of the NYBC. He is a licensed professional engineer with a degree in civil engineering from New York University and a Master of Science degree in management from the Polytechnic Institute of New York.
