BTA seals many blood banks for providing substandard blood.
LAHORE -- On the direction of Punjab Minister for Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education, Secretary Punjab Blood Transfusion Authority (BTA) Dr Mohammad Athar inspected many blood banks in Sialkot, Narowal, Daska and Pasrur along with his technical team.
He issued directions for improving the working of the blood banks and sealed many of them for providing sunbstandard blood to the patients.
It was noticed that the staff working at the blood units needed urgent training to improve the blood banking practices.
Meanwhile, during the raids conducted at various illegal blood banks, stolen blood bags were recovered from one laboratory situated opposite the THQ Hospital Daska. The blood was stolen from various government blood units located in Lahore.
The working of Young Blood Foundation Fawara Chowk Daska was also found substandard. The society was directed to stop the supply of blood. Working of blood bank at Ideal Lab Sialkot was also found poor.
Similarly, poor quality blood was recovered from the blood storage cabinet of Ideal Lab. Both Sharif Lab Daska and Ideal lab Sialkot were stopped from working.
The registration of Young Blood Foundation Daska and Ideal Lab Sialkot have been cancelled.
However, the good quality of blood and blood banking practices by Memorial Christian Hospital Paris Road Sialkot and Sundus Foundation Sialkot were appreciated.
Dr Mohammad Athar said that PBTA was working for provision of safe and healthy blood to all patients across the province and the substandard blood banks would not be allowed to play with the lives of patients.
