BRUSSELS AIRPORT AWARDS BAGGAGE CONTRACT.

Vanderlande has been awarded the contract to upgrade the baggage handling system (BHS) at Brussels Airport. The deal forms part of a 20-year framework agreement signed between the Brussels Airport Company (BAC) and Vanderlande in March. The airport said the operational improvements will allow it to handle an expected growth in annual passenger numbers from 25 to 40 million within the next 25 years. Vanderlande will be working in close co-operation with EN6IE Fabricom Airport Solutions for the project. Brussels Airport explained its investment programme includes replacing the existing conventional BHS with Vanderlande's TUBTRAX technology, upgrading the high-level controls and integrating new hold baggage screening (HBS) machines to comply with the latest EU Standard 3 regulations. The new BHS system will connect the existing check-in and transfer areas with the new HBS systems and the existing sorters, makeup carousels and the sortation area located in Pier A.
