BRUNSWICK PLANT CITED FOR NRC VIOLATION

BRUNSWICK PLANT CITED FOR NRC VIOLATION
 RALEIGH, N.C., March 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The Nuclear Regulatory

Commission (NRC) has proposed a $100,000 civil penalty against Carolina Power & Light (NYSE: CPL) for alleged violation of NRC requirements at the Brunswick plant near Southport, N.C.
The NRC alleges that an inadequate maintenance procedure was used when cleaning a unit 2 diesel generator on Jan. 3, 1992, causing the diesel generator to fail to operate during a test conducted on Jan. 6.
The Brunswick plant has four emergency diesel generators as backup power sources. Three diesel generators would be able to safely shut down the plant if other electricity sources are not available.
The company does not plan to contest the proposed civil penalty.
