BRUCE J. BERGMAN, 25-YEAR COMPUTER INDUSTRY VETERAN, APPOINTED PRESIDENT AND CEO AT PROTEON

 WESTBOROUGH, Mass., Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Proteon, Inc. (NASDAQ: PTON) today announced the appointment of Bruce J. Bergman as president, chief executive officer and a member of the company's board of directors. Elliot (Doc) Honan, who had been serving as acting president and CFO, will continue as Proteon's vice president finance and administration, chief financial officer, and also a member of the board of directors.
 Bergman brings 25 years of executive management, sales, marketing and engineering experience to Proteon. He joins the company from Xylogics, Inc., Burlington, Mass., where he was president and CEO for the last 10 years. At Xylogics, a networking and remote-access hardware and software products company, Bergman was responsible for successfully repositioning the company during several shifts in the marketplace.

 Prior to Xylogics, Bergman spent 12 years at Control Data Corporation where in his last assignment he served as general manager of the company's IBM-compatible Peripheral Systems Division with annual revenue of approximately $150 million. Earlier, he held various management positions within Control Data of increasing responsibility in the sales and marketing areas.
 Bergman's early experience in industry with Honeywell was in engineering management. He holds a BSEE degree from the University of Minnesota and an MBA from the University of Southern California.
