HOUSTON, Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Browning-Ferris Industries, Inc. (NYSE: BFI) today announced the election of Bruce E. Ranck as president and chief operating officer. Ranck fills the position left vacant with the departure of John Drury in January 1991.
"Bruce is a superb operations executive, and knows this business from top to bottom," said William D. Ruckelshaus, chairman and chief executive officer. "He has already taken on many of the responsibilities of the office of president, and we are now particularly pleased to expand his role and make it official. His experience and knowledge will be critical to BFI during this time of transition."
Ranck, 42, currently serves as executive vice president, North American solid waste operations, and is a member of the company's board of directors.
"BFI is a strong, solid company, with good managers at every level of its operations," said Ranck. "I am proud of what this company has achieved in the past and excited about its prospects for the future."
Previous to serving in his present position, Ranck was a regional vice president for 10 years, in charge of the company's east central region headquartered in Linthicum, Md. He has served at BFI since 1970 in a number of positions including district manager and divisional operations manager.
Ranck attended Michigan State University, where he graduated in 1970. He resides in Houston with his wife and five children.
