BROOKTROUT TECHNOLOGY ANNOUNCES RECORD SECOND QUARTER REVENUES INCREASE 51 PERCENT, INCOME UP 49 PERCENT

 NEEDHAM, Mass., July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Brooktrout Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: BRKT) today reported that revenues for the second quarter of 1993 increased 51 percent to $4,658,000 from $3,088,000 for the second quarter of 1992. The company also reported income before extraordinary items increased 49 percent to $476,000, 12 cents per share, from $319,000, 12 cents per share, for the same period in 1992. Earnings per share data in 1992 reflect the lower number of shares outstanding prior to the company's initial public offering in October 1992.
 Revenues for the six months ended June 30, 1993, were $8,281,000 compared to $5,587,000 for the same period 1992. Income before extraordinary items was $794,000 or 20 cents per share compared to $539,000 or 20 cents per share for the comparable period in 1992.
 Net income for the first quarter of 1993 was positively affected by recognition of a cumulative effect of change in accounting principles, FAS109 "Accounting for Income Taxes." Taking this item into account, net income for the first six months of 1993 was $1,131,000 or 28 cents per share while the second quarter net income was $476,000 or 12 cents per share. For the first two quarters of 1992 net income was positively affected by extraordinary items reflecting the utilization of net operating loss carryforwards. As such, net income for the second quarter and first six months of 1992 were $457,000 or 17 cents per share and $756,000 or 28 cents per share respectively.
 During this quarter, the company finalized the acquisition of DAFcom Corporation, a Dallas-based start-up developing fax routing products for private data networks. The subsidiary, now called Brooktrout Networks Group, Inc., represents a significant step in Brooktrout's acquisition of important technology focused on private networks to implement least cost routing of facsimile traffic.
 Brooktrout is a technical and market leader in voice and facsimile messaging. The company supplies fax and voice processing boards to developers of enhanced fax and voice systems, and messaging systems to OEM customers. The company was the first to introduce multi-channel fax boards and combine voice and facsimile on a single board
